About us

At Bitikçi, we embarked on a mission to address a significant challenge faced by book lovers in Azerbaijan: the often unreasonably high prices of books. We firmly believe that everyone should have access to quality books at affordable prices. It is with this conviction that we created a platform where users can sell their pre-owned or new books at more reasonable prices.

While the exact reasons behind the high book prices may be multifaceted, we speculate that factors such as high cargo costs for imported books and a relatively small number of bookstores compared to other countries contribute to this issue. Bitikçi directly tackles these challenges by connecting local sellers with local buyers, thereby minimizing or entirely eliminating the need for long-distance shipping costs. Simultaneously, by empowering more individuals to sell their books, we increase the overall supply and foster a more competitive pricing environment.

Our primary target audience encompasses all book lovers. However, we are particularly passionate about making books easily accessible to individuals with relatively lower incomes or those who simply prefer to spend less on their reading materials.

The name "Bitikçi" was chosen with thoughtful intention. In Azerbaijani, a Turkic language, "bitik" is the archaic form of the word "book" in Old Turkic. The suffix "-çi" is equivalent to "-er" in English. Thus, "Bitikçi" literally translates to "Booker" or "bookseller." This name beautifully encapsulates the very essence of our platform's purpose.

Our core value is centered around empowering our community of "bookworms." We are not driven by maximizing profits from our customers; instead, our primary goal is to enable them to purchase more books with the same amount of money.

In our vision for the future, Bitikçi extends beyond being just a transactional marketplace. We aspire to cultivate a vibrant community among book lovers and serve as a hub that fosters a deep appreciation for reading. We believe that those who haven't yet discovered the joy of reading simply haven't had the right opportunity. Curiosity is a fundamental human instinct, and we believe that reading books is a powerful way to nurture and satisfy that curiosity.

While we may not divulge specific details about our future plans, our core mission remains unwavering: less money, more books.
